So it comes to that time ! the time that i dread I walked out of church 6 mths ago but to be honest i had issues with it following the October 2004 elections and my churches seinor pastor running for a seat with the "family first" party mainly i have issues with family first as they are ultra right wing and i have have so many problems with anyone being right wing and christian for so many reasions that i dont have all day to blog about but the main one was the fact that they would use the house of G-d and preaching time to push there political beliefs which i found a total abuse of G-ds office and a waste of my time as i had to come to hear the word of G-d not some wanker talk about politics before the 2004 election i had never even mentioned my political views in church and had no plans to It was the dickheads at family first who brought politics into my church and if they think i am going to sit there and listen to ultra right wing arguments then they are so wrong ...... the christian church should be non political ....!!!!!!!
Anyway i walked out when some dickhead turned up to preach and started handing out famialy firts membership pamphlets on the product table .. i held my tounge and aproched the pastor about it saying its G-ds house and enough is enough he told me to take it up with the visiting preacher so i did that (and i was so polite too ) anyway after i got home i though its time to stop going because its just getting out of hand and i dont want to be around people like that i thought to myself i would give myself the rest of the year to rest and decide what i will do..... well i guess its time for me to make a desion the options are .....
1 keep doing what i am doing that is nothing to do with any church.
2 go to a new church and start again
3 go back to the same church
4 burn down the church and start my own church.
At the moment i do not feel any need or pull to go to church i dont want to go back as they have not bothered to contact me about my objections not one person in the whole place ... i did run into a leardership meeting at the coffee shop and said hi they asked where i had been and i told them that i quit church and quickly the reasions why one of the elders said he wanted to call me and talk about it i said sure i am open to talking about it and seeing your views and how i can overcome it cause i dont want some dumb issue to stand in the way of me and church anyway i gave him my number and never heard from him ........... i have also heard that the senior pastor thinks im an idot over my views .... an issue that i plan on taking up with him when i see him and i will ... if he wants to talk trash about me he can do it to my face or i beat hes arse like i would anyone else .......
So there you go i think for now i will take another 6 mths and then who knows maybe another 6.... i am just not intrested on any political views in church ... they dont belong !!!!

OK, i can relate to a lot of what you are saying. A long time ago, I was a member of a church, and I had quit going for like 6 months, I had been 'church hopping' looking for a place to fit. In the meantime, other than the monthly newsletter that everybody got, no one, not a soul, contacted me from the church. That didn't bug me until one afternoon I got a call from the church secretary, and she asked if I could fill in for the worship leader next Sunday. I was flabbergasted (did I spell that right either american or Aussie?) anyways I told her it would be best if I declined.
OK about you. I hate to see you without the support of a church, even though, obviously some dont support so well. Maybe you could find one of those home fellowship things, if there are any near you, they are usually more like real church (and not a social or political gathering) than 'regular' churches. But the choice of not going or a bad church, I probably would not go, but who am I to say, I work everyday, so I dont get to go, and basically my church is on the net, so sad huh? Coz there is no real support there.
Now, some of the best politcal movements have come out of churchs. Like the abolitionist movement, equal rights for women movement. Even the american Revolution was driven by sermons in the churches back then. But maybe we should have stayed in the kingdom? hahaha So as to politics not belonging in church , I dont know, only because of the past. I am not agreeing with them doing the political stuff, I am just pointing out what has been: right or wrong. What I do see, is you had , and have a right to not take part in that, and if they were really concerned about you as you, they would have contacted you, instead of writing you off as an "idiot". Were here too many 'you's in that sentence?

Hey bear Aussie churches are not as political as the usa right wing movement here it is probably just starting with the only real Christian party on any large scale starting for the 2004 elections ... anyway I don’t think that is what church should be about but if it was you might note that abolitionist, equal rights for women and alike are all left wing wins with equal rights for all being the foundation of a more socialist approach than the right wing capitalistic bully boy approach(I need spell check)
So me and church well I guess in any big church you can get lost in the crowed and people like me can be quiet sometimes Having said that I use to run a Home Group for the church with about 6-10 people mid week following a bible study about 2 years ago now I guess I decided that I should not run it and moved the group onto someone else. That was over the fact that I started sleeping with one of the guys that was coming to the group ( I know I am going to hell for that one too lol ) Oh did I mention that he’s girlfriend use to come to the group also (ok enough confession time)
Now I really must talk to you about starting your own blog now that I have finally got you commenting at a reasonable length… giggles

you know i was going to weigh in on this debate ;)
ok well my 2c is this... we have to ask 2 questions...
1. what is church?
2. why do we need it?
ok well firstly i would like to say that church is a broader concept than just that building down the street where you go each sunday...
in OT days the "church" revolved arround the temple it was the "house of God" but when Jesus died on the cross the curtain on the temple ripped in 2 and thus God presence was no longer restricted to the temple...
so in NT times we should think of the church in terms of the people for WE are the Temple! thus we can reference scriptures like Matthew 18:20 where we see that if 2 or more are gathered God is with us...
so church is in its simplest form a gathering of 2 or more christians... or as i like to call it "a bunch of christians who have decided to do life together"
ok now for the second question ... why go to church? well this one is easyer with our first definition becouse we dont have to get caught up in a building/organisation/new "temple" but we can be involved with a group of christians who want to seek God and live life together....
why? becouse it aint a solo race Hebrews 10:25 dont give up meeting together ... becouse its important....
so here is the question sarah... did you ever leave church? as long as you have christians encouraging you and seeking to build you up in the Lord... your in church ;)

Perhaps you are right young Andy perhaps ...... I know that church is just a group of people meeting together not the building... But I dont know if I could quite strech it to being an internet thing.... I mean sometimes the net is down dose that mean G-d dosnt want us to meet should we look up to people who have a faster cable or satalite conection to G-d as being more blessed ..... While it is true my net friends actualy in many ways are closer or better friends than some people i meet in the outside world
