US govt denies it's banned Vegemite


Australians travelling to the US can breathe easy. So can the 100,000 or so Australian expatriates living in America.

The US government dismissed media reports it had banned Vegemite.

"There is no ban on Vegemite," US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) spokesman Mike Herndon told AAP.

Media reports at the weekend claimed American border officials were confiscating Vegemite from Australians as they entered the US.

The FDA, charged with policing America's food supply, has not issued an "import alert" to border officials to halt the import of Vegemite.

Herndon said the FDA was surprised by the media reports.

The controversy centres on folate, an ingredient in Vegemite.

Under US regulations, folate can be added only to breads and cereals.

"One of the Vitamin B components (in Vegemite) is folate," Herndon explained.

"In and of itself, it's not a violation. If they're adding folate to it, boosting it up, technically it would be a violation.

"But the FDA has not targeted it and I don't think we intend to target Vegemite simply because of that."

Joanna Scott, spokesperson for Vegemite's maker, Kraft, reportedly has said, "The Food and Drug Administration doesn't allow the import of Vegemite simply because the recipe does have the addition of folic acid".

But Herndon said, "Nobody at the FDA has told them (Kraft) there is a ban".

To eradicate any grey areas or potential regulation breaches, Herndon said, Kraft could petition the FDA, something other food manufacturers have done.

While many Aussies living in the US rely on visiting Australian relatives and friends to bring them a jar or two of Vegemite from Australia, the product is available in some US supermarkets.

The price slapped on Vegemite, however, is tough to swallow.

A tiny, four ounce jar of Vegemite sells for around $US4.80 ($A6.33) in US supermarkets.

OK looks like someone stuffed something up .. ... maybe me for taking notice of a FOX owned media ... shame on me ... I will take back some of the bad things i said about the USA in the last 2 days ....

Just when you think the frickin US of A has done enough harm in the world ... news comes in that they have baned vegemite !!!!!! omgosh ... they are even searching cars and bags on Aussies for the stuff .... why .. cause the land of the free people is not so free .. but you already knew that ... vegemite is great for you not to mention it tastes fantastic .... what is the world coming to .. as a friend of mine said quote " why do we help them fight their shitty wars when they are searching us for spreads" totally agree ...



The bizarre crackdown was prompted because Vegemite contains folate, which in the US can be added only to breads and cereals.
Expatriates say that enforcement of the ban has been stepped up recently and is ruining lifelong traditions of having Vegemite on toast for breakfast.

Former Geelong man Daniel Fogarty, who now lives in Calgary, Canada, said he was stunned when searched while crossing the US border recently.

"The border guard asked us if we were carrying any Vegemite," Mr Fogarty said.

"I was flabbergasted." Paul Watkins, who owns a store called About Australia in San Antonio, Texas, said he had been forced to stop importing Vegemite six months ago.

"We have completely stopped bringing it in," he said.

"(US authorities) have made a stance and there is nothing that can be done about it."

Another reasion I will never go to the usa ... lets make that number 1001 wankers lol

Jess and Nic Tie the knot

Greetings shiny happy people ....

Spent Last Saturday at the wedding of two of my dear friends Jess and Nic I have been to heaps of weddings but this was my first Gay one and I must say it was the best thing i have seen in a long time everything was so so nice and personal the ceromeny was to die for with with music and poems that reflected the lifes of the girls so well ...

It was a small service and perhaps that added to the intmicy of it all but as Nic said her vowels that she had written herself there was not a dry eye in the house CONGRATS so very much !!!!

Got me wondering though if gay weddings are illeagl then were the cops about to bust in and drag everyone off to prision or something ????

Anyway not much else to say at the moment only that I am having fun and looking at a few ideas for my birthday which is not all that far away ... one idea is to lock myself in my room and cry about how old I am getting ... lol .. perhaps I can pass on that one ..

Free Hugzs

I was feeling alittle blue today ... and a little confused about if I should keep blogging or just kill the blog ... to be honest I guess I have been blogging alittle close to heart about some events of late and perhaps people dont get that my life is diffrent to how they chose to live theirs ... well thats just me ... you can live with it or go away ... just dont judge me for it ok ... I hate people that judge me .. perhaps its just going back to high school where i never fitted in with any groups or clicks that were going around .. I lived with it then and I can live with it now ... anyway I watched the free hugs you tube clip again and felt I should just post it .. if you are one of the few people on the planet that has not seen it yet please watch it ..

Nipple Piercing

OK today I decided to get my left nipple pierced ... why ??? I can almost hear you asking well I have wanted it done for awhile but couldnt do it while I was still fighting .. can you imagine it getting ripped out OUCH plus 1000 !!! so anyway I rang a friend who runs a Pierce shop and thought I would just book in for like a week away giving me time to back out of it if i needed to .. anyway she said she could do it in about an hour if i could get myself down there so i did and here is the result OUCH! well it hurt like a bitch but really not all that bad I mean I didnt even cry such a big girl I am ... Its kinda bleeding abit at the moment and looks kinda yuck the purple ink you can see is where she drew on me to get it in the right place .... as you can see i got a whats called a large hole not the little shitty ones some chics get !!!

Anyway I like it and am thinking about getting the other one done next week !! I can not believe I just said that but I think it would look better if they were both done dont you ??? can not go around being unbalanced can I ? for now I will keep the bar thing untill it heals abit and then maybe go for a ring thing... any ideas ???

wednessday is fridays bitch

Hi everyone ... been a quite week back home for me so far ... not much going on at all .. after the last few weekends Maybe its what i need!!!! (you think) well getting back home after 2 weeks away is nice not that anything has changed but I love my own bed !!!!

Not much news on the relationship frount either I went out last friday and met some nice people I got a number from a cute girl only to find she missed out a digit and that ment i had to find out from a friend of a friend yesterday cause I told her I would call her gotta hate that ..

I run into John he was also out at the same club I was he said hi and we had a quick kiss but nothing more.. I did keep an eye on what he was doing but felt silly when I found myself doing it .. I am fine with whatever we are but really I do want more and if i spend to much time with him I know i will just want him so I am trying to give myself some space and let him come to me when he is ready !!!!

So with the weekend coming up fast i dont know what i am doing I have plans to do a big climb on sunday if the weather stays good fingers crossed I also think I will head out on friday night once again I feel I might be indanger of falling into something I left behind along time ago ... that being the whole club thing .. for the moment i am enjoying going out for a dance and a drink ... perhaps that is as far as this road will lead me this time ... i know i am alot smarter than what i use to be ... well i hope so ... there was alot of lessions along the way ...
